Mac preview notes
Version 0.6.0-preview.3 · 14 September 2026
Otto is an early Mac preview. The downloads include the local tools it needs. Use the installer that matches your Mac’s chip.
Before you start
- Use macOS 13.5 or later, with at least 16 GB of free space.
- Find your chip in the Apple menu under About This Mac. M-series chips use the Apple silicon installer.
- Connect a ChatGPT plan with Codex access, or an API key from a supported service. Your provider’s plan limits or charges apply.
Install Otto
- Download the Mac installer. Sign in to GitHub with an account that has access to Otto.
- Open the DMG file and drag Otto to Applications.
- Open Otto and select Get started. Connect an AI service, then select Start chatting.
- Try Create a sample report. Open the result and save a copy.
First setup takes a few minutes. You can close Otto and return to finish it.
About the preview
This build has an ad hoc signature and no Apple notarization. macOS can block first launch. Read Apple’s guide to opening downloaded apps before you continue.
The app was tested on Apple silicon. The Intel package and its helper programs were checked with Rosetta on an Apple silicon Mac. The full Intel runtime has not been tested on Intel hardware.
Work is stored on your Mac. AI requests and connected app actions use external services. Scheduled tasks need an awake Mac and Otto’s local services. Notifications need Otto to stay open.
What changed in this version
- Completed tasks keep their results, files, and checks during later conversation.
- Buddy settings have one searchable model list.
- Tasks have clearer descriptions, history, and schedule controls.
- Brain has clearer notes and methods, with more space between items.
- HTML results open in Files and result previews.
- Existing app connections appear in Toolset. Disabled connections keep their state.
Later updates
The app source and installers stay in a private GitHub repository. Downloads and updates inside the app can require repository access. You can also download a later installer and replace Otto in Applications. Keep the app data folder.
Check your download
The SHA-256 checksum file lists the original release values. Use it to check your download.
